Mass in C minor by W.A. Mozart

I can’t believe summer vacation is over and it’s almost the end of the 2nd week of school.  I had a great summer teaching in California and Hawaii.  I was the assistant director of the Young Artist Program at Songfest in Malibu, California and Voice & Collaborative Piano Faculty at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival in Waimea, Hawaii.  I worked with a lot of very talented students from all over North America and it has been a great summer overall.

With the beginning of the school year, a lot of new things are happening and it is truly exciting.  On the 28th of November, I am going to be the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C minor with the Toronto Sinfonietta under the baton of maestro Matthew Jaskiewicz.  Here are the details of the concert and I hope many of you will be able to come:

Date:             Saturday, 28th November, 2009

Time:            7:30pm

Place:           Christ Church Deer park (1570 Yonge Street, Toronto ON)

Ticket info:  (416) 410-4379 or tickets@torontosinfonietta.com

Hope to see you all there!!!

Hawaii – July 2008

I can’t believe this is the second time I have been in Hawaii within the last 2 months!!!  I was on a family cruise vacation at the end of May.  Now I am back on the Big Island…but I am actually working this time.  I am on faculty at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival which runs from July 1st to 29th.

I just finished teaching in the “Lifelong Singer” program (July 1st – 6th) where adult singers (ranging from serious hobbyists to voice teachers) gather to have lessons, master classes and performances.  It was a truly enjoyable experience for all.  The next program, which is the main part of the festival, starts on July 10th.  So for the last few days, I have been hanging out with a couple of my students, Jennifer and Kimberley, at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.  We went swimming in the enormous pools, went shopping and had tappanyaki dinner.  Tonight, we went to a luau (dinner and show) that was hosted by the hotel.  The food was buffet style with wide varieties ranging from salads to poké to braised pork ribs to cream pies…it was yummy!!!  Then, a highly entertaining show with different types of traditional island dances, from the Hula dance to the famous “fire dance”!!!  We had a lot of fun and are ready for the hard work that is ahead of us in the next three weeks!!

Music and Speech Arts students all over Ontario who were recommended by adjudicators at their local festivals (maximum 2 people per level per festival from RCM Grades 7-ARCT and Open) came together for a 2nd-round battle in which one first-place, one runner-up and some honourable-mentions were given out.
